wrapping up the sabbatical and going back to teaching in January...
Canberra Glassworks
Oct. 13th 2012
In 2012 I have been on a yearlong sabbatical. In January I am returning to teaching and running the glass program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
During March and April 2012 I traveled to Australia to work with Canberra Glassworks, with the glass program at Australian National University, with the Glass-Ceramic Program at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, and as a visiting research resident at Sydney College of the Arts. I was able to see many glass students and artists working Down Under. I thank everyone who made my trip possible and welcomed me with warmth.

Fire Station Artists Studios
In September 2012 I traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to teach a workshop at the Fire Station Artists’ Studios and to visit the National College of Art and Design, where the SIUC glass program has an exchange student program. Fire Station is an established artist residency facility that does not have a glass studio, but has run an annual glass workshop the past several years. We borrowed a few basic coldworking machines from some of the workshop participants and set up a temporary coldworking studio. We had an outstanding outcome with the participants' craftsmanship and talent.
